What is Ceramic sand used for?

Ceramic sand is a widely used refractory material, primarily made from high-quality bauxite through electric melting or sintered, granulation, and screening. Its spherical shape is key. Its main applications include the following:

  1. Foundry Industry

Suitable for Various Casting Methods:Ceramic sand is widely applicable to various casting methods, including resin sand, water glass sand, and coated sand. It is suitable for various casting techniques, including V-type casting, VRH casting, lost foam casting, investment casting, and conventional sand casting.

Suitable for Various Metal Castings: Ceramic sand can be used to cast carbon steel, alloy steel (such as high-manganese steel and high-chromium cast iron), cast iron, copper, and other metals.

Improving Casting Quality: Castings made with ceramic sand are high-quality, easy to remove sand, and the sandmaking process is simple and convenient. Ceramic sand can reduce the amount of binders such as resin added, thereby increasing the yield rate.

     2. Other Industrial Applications

Ladle Drainage Agent: Ceramic sand can be used as a ladle drainage agent, replacing chromite sand. It offers advantages such as high pouring rate, low specific gravity, and low thermal expansion.

Alloy Surface Treatment: In alloy surface treatment, ceramic sand can replace glass beads, offering moderate hardness, good wear resistance, and a stable chemical composition.

Refractory Coatings: Ceramic sand can also be used as a raw material for refractory coatings, replacing zirconium powder or bauxite powder. It offers advantages such as high refractoriness, low thermal expansion coefficient, good air permeability, and low cost.
