Manganese 13  (12-14% Manganese) Material Analysis

1. Material Overview

Manganese 13 (Mn13) is a high-manganese wear-resistant steel belonging to the austenitic steel category, with a manganese content of 12-14%. Through special Casting processes and heat treatment, this steel exhibits excellent work-hardening ability and impact resistance, making it outstanding under strong impact and high-pressure working conditions.

2. Chemical Composition

Element Content Range (%) Main Function
C 0.9 - 1.5 Improve hardness and strength
Mn 12 - 14 Form austenitic structure, provide work-hardening ability
Si 0.3 - 1.0 Deoxidizer, enhance steel fluidity
P ≤0.07 Impurity, reduces toughness (strict control required)
S ≤0.05 Impurity, reduces hot workability (strict control required)
Cr ≤2.0 (optional) Improve wear and corrosion resistance
Mo ≤1.0 (optional) Refine grain size, enhance strength and hardenability

3. Performance Characteristics

  1. Work-Hardening Property: Under impact loading, the surface hardens rapidly, with hardness increasing from the original HB170-230 to HB500-550, forming a wear-resistant surface layer while maintaining core toughness.
  2. High Toughness: Elongation ≥20%, impact toughness ≥140J/cm², suitable for high-impact environments.
  3. Wear Resistance: 5-10 times more wear-resistant than ordinary Carbon Steel under high-impact conditions.
  4. Fatigue Resistance: The austenitic structure provides good fatigue resistance.
